Police Radar Detecters?
Has anybody heard of these devices? Are they banned in Illinois? If not, How much do they cost? What is the best one? Where can I get them?

Radar Detectors are legal in Illinois. They are very common and can even be bought at Walmart – the more expensive ones being about 100 dollars. You can get high tech radar detectors online as well.
I don’t condone them. When I bought my first car at 17 I had one and I got 5 tickets in 8 months. Why? Because it’s a false sense of security. Once the radar detectors goes off to let you know there’s a cop nearby, chances are, you’re already caught. Not really worth it to invest in. Just follow the speed limit.

Why Virginia doesn’t allow radar detectors?
I am not sure the reason, but it does sound like emtrapment. the regular citizen cannot use a radar detector, but the Police does use radar to check your speed. To add insult to injury most highways have speed trap areas where state troopers actually hide behind bridge pillars or on top of highway access ramps.
Why? Because the law makers feel that radar detectors are used to assist in breaking the law. Truckers don’t call it the “communist state” for nothing…
But I’ll take this discussion one step further. The VHP have what is referred to as “Radar detector – detectors” and they work. Real well. I’ve gotten two tickets and had one detector confiscated because of them. The last time I was sitting in the cruiser getting my lecture and ticket I noticed that the device was made by Cincinnati Microwave. The same folks that produce the Escort and Passport radar detectors.
Nothing like playing both sides of the fence…
