If I get a laser jammer, do I also need a radar detector?
If the jammer scrambles the radar guns, do I also need a radar detector?
Two devices that police officers may use to measure the speed of moving vehicles are 1. a radar gun and 2. a laser gun (often referred to as LiDAR.) They are rarely used near each other, and there is no device used by law enforcement that does both, emitting laser and radar. Therefore, you DO need a radar detector as well as a laser jammer.
A laser jammer will NOT detect a radar signal, and will NOT jam a RADAR signal. Similarly, a radar detector will NOT jam a LASER gun. Although most radar detectors detect police laser, detecting laser is not enough. You have 0.2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) to check your speed after your radar detector alerts to laser. Obviously, that’s not enough time to check your speed and adjust if needed. Your only option for police laser is to jam the laser gun until you have time to check your speed.
So, YES. If you are using a laser jammer, you also need a radar detector. Several companies are making combined radar detector/laser jammer systems.
