What brands of radar detectors are most effective?

I know that radar detectors are not 100% effective…but I was curious about the truly reliable brands. I know that you get what you pay for when buying radar detectors. Anybody have any personal experiences with them?

Valentine is the most popular in our local Corvette club, where owners swear by them. I don’t have one so I can’t say.
